My heart is sad and I am lonesome For the only one I love When will I see you, oh oh, never Till We meet in heaven above CHORUS: O bury me beneath the willow Under the weeping willow tree So you will know where I am sleeping And perhaps you’ll weep for me. You told me that you loved me dearly How could I believe you untrue Until an angel softly whispered They have proven untrue to you. Tomorrow was our wedding day Oh god, oh god, where can you be You’re gone, you’re gone to wed another You no longer care for me.
2.

Now you must answer my questions nine Sing ninety-nine and ninety, Or you aren't God's you are one of mine And who is the weaver's bonny? What is whiter than a milk? Sing ninety-nine and ninety; And what is softer than a silk? And who is the weaver's bonny? Snow is whiter than a milk, Sing ninety-nine and ninety; And down is softer than a silk, And I am the weaver's bonny. What is louder than a horn? Sing ninety-nine and ninety; And what is sharper than a thorn? And who is the weaver's bonny? Thunder's louder than a horn, Sing ninety-nine and ninety ; And death is sharper than a thorn, And I am the weaver's bonny. What is higher than a tree? Sing ninety-nine and ninety; And what is deeper than the sea? And who is the weaver's bonny? Heaven is higher than a tree, Sing ninety-nine and ninety; And hell is deeper than the sea, And I am the weaver's bonny What's more innocent than a lamb? Sing ninety-nine and ninety; What is meaner than humankind? And who is the weaver's bonny? A babe's more innocent than a lamb, Sing ninety-nine and ninety; And the devil is meaner than human kind, And I am the weaver's bonny. You have answered my questions nine, Sing ninety-nine and ninety; So you are God's, you are none of mine, And you are the weaver's bonny.

Cuckoo Bird 04:06
Gonna build me log cabin On a mountain so high So I can, see Willie As he goes walking by Oh, the coo-coo, she’s a pretty bird And She wobbles as she flies She’ll never say coo-coo Till the fourth day of July Oh I’ve played cards in Old England And I’ve played cards in Spain I’ll bet you ten dollars That I'll beat you the next game Jack-a-Diamonds, Jack-a-Diamonds I have known you from old You’ve robbed my poor pocket Of my silver and my gold My horses ain’t hungry And They won’t eat your hay I’ll drive on a little further I’ll feed ‘em on my way Oh, the coo-coo, she’s a pretty bird And She wobbles as she flies She never, says coo-coo Till the fourth day of July
5.
Shenandoah 06:25
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to hear you, Away you rolling river. Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you, Away, I'm bound away, 'cross the wide Missouri. Oh Shenandoah, I am your daughter, Away, you rolling river. For you I'd cross, Your roaming waters, Away, I'm bound away, 'Cross the wide Missouri. It’s been seven years, since last I've seen you, And hear your rolling river. It’s been seven years, since last I've seen you, Away, we're bound away, Across the wide Missouri. Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you, And hear your rolling river. Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you, Away, we're bound away, Across the wide Missouri.
6.
Pretty Saro 03:19
O, I left my Pretty Saro And I quit my lover too And I started for to ramble This whole wide world through And When I get tired I’ll lay down and weep And think of my pretty darling Wherever I sleep And it’s not this long journey I’m dreading for to go Or the country I’m leaving Or the debts that I owe There’s one thing that grieves me And troubles my mind That’s leaving my little darling Way back here behind Well, I wish I was a turtle dove Had wings and could fly I’d fly through Saro's window Feel the breath of her sigh And there in those precious arms All night I would lye And hold my sweet child forever Never have to say goodbye
7.
I'm going to ask the question, please answer if you can Is anybody here that can tell me, what about the soul of a man? I've traveled in different countries, I've traveled foreign lands Haven’t met anybody that could tell me, tell me what about the soul of a man A crowd of people stand talking, I walked up right on time Was preaching the lawyers and the doctors, said a man ain't nothing but his mind I read the good books often, I tries to read em right As far as I could understand, nothing but a burning light. Won't somebody tell me, tell me if you can! Won’t somebody tell me, tell me what is the soul of a man?
8.
Here I sit on Buttermilk Hill Who can blame me, cryin' my fill And ev'ry tear would turn a mill My lover has gone for a soldier Loved them oh I loved them so Broke my heart to see them go Only time can heal my woe My lover has gone for a soldier I'll dye my clothes, I'll dye them red And through the streets I'll beg for bread For the one I adore, from me has fled My lover has gone for a soldier I'll sell my flax, I’ll sell my meal, Sell my only spinnin' wheel To buy for them a sword of steel My lover has gone for a soldier Oh my darling, oh my love, Gone the rainbow, gone the dove, May we meet again, in heaven above My lover has gone for a soldier.

Big Sciota 02:41
10.
There were two sisters, such a beautiful pair O the wind and rain One was dark and the other was fair O the dreadful wind and rain And they both had a love for a neighbor's son O the wind and rain But he was fond of the fairer one O the dreadful wind and rain So she pushed her into the river to drown O the wind and rain And watched her as she floated down O the dreadful wind and rain And she floated till she came to a shallow pond O the wind and rain Dead on the water like a golden swan O the dreadful wind and rain And along the road came a fiddler fair O the wind and rain And found her bones just a lying there, cried O the dreadful wind and rain So he made a fiddle peg of her long finger bone O the wind and rain He a made a fiddle peg of her long finger bone O the dreadful wind and rain And he strung his fiddle bow with her long yeller hair O the wind and rain He strung his fiddle bow with her long yeller hair, cried O the dreadful wind and rain And he made a fiddle fiddle of her breast bone O the wind and rain He made a fiddle fiddle of her breast bone, cried O the dreadful wind and rain But the only tune that the fiddle could play was O the wind and rain The only tune that the fiddle would play was O the dreadful wind and rain
11.
I'm So Glad 03:15
Tired of weeping Tired of moaning Tired of crying over you No more weeping No more moaning No more crying over you I'm so glad, yes, I am glad I am so glad, I’m glad ooh I don't know what to do Don't know what to do, Oooo, Don't know what to do Would you be my darling Would you be my dear Be my darling, be my dear I'll go cuckoo koo, like a little baby do And get another little kiss from you. I'm so glad, yes, I am glad I am so glad, I’m glad ooh I don't know what to do Don't know what to do, oooo, don't know what to do
12.
Oh, I'm a poor wayfaring stranger Traveling through this world alone Yet there’s no toil, no threat or danger In this world to which I go I know dark clouds will father round me I know my way is hard and steep But beauteous fields arise before me Where weary eyes no more will weep I'm going there to see my mother She said she’d meet me when I come So I’m just goin' over Jordan I am just goin' over home I'll soon be free from every trial This form shall rest beneath the sod I'll drop the cross of self-denial And enter in that home with God I'm goin' there to see my father And all my loved ones who’ve gone on I am just goin' over Jordan I am just goin' over home

As time draws near my dearest dear when you and I must part How little you know of the grief and woe in my poor aching heart Each night I suffer for your sake, you’re the one I love so dear I wish that I was going with you or you were staying here I wish my breast were made of glass wherein you might behold Upon my heart your name lies wrote in letters made of gold In letters made of gold my Love, believe me when I say You are the one that I’ll adore until my dying day The blackest crow that ever flew would surely turn to white If ever I prove false to you bright day will turn to night Bright day will turn to night my love, the elements will mourn If ever I prove false to you the seas will rage and burn

American Patchwork Quartet Bring Immigrant Life And Underrepresented Voices To America’s Folk Traditions On Self-Titled Debut Album

Award-Winning Artists Come Together Across Cultures And Musical Backgrounds

American Patchwork Quartet (APQ) released their self-titled debut album on 2/9/2024, an urgent and profound statement from four award-winning artists looking to reclaim the immigrant soul of roots music, by lifting its underrepresented voices. Beginning with the country’s centuries-old standards, the members of APQ renew America’s folk traditions by redefining what it means to be 'traditionally American' in the first place. They achieve this by drawing on their own unique American stories, perspectives, and experiences - which, in too many cases, were not incorporated when these songs were first popularized.

The project comes from the combined talents of two-time GRAMMY winner Clay Ross (Best Regional Roots Album; 2020 and 2022), GRAMMY-winning vocalist Falu (the first female singer-songwriter from India to win the award), go-to jazz bassist Yasushi Nakamura (Cecile McLorin Salvant, Joe Lovano, Kurt Elling) and drummer Clarence Penn (whose played on two GRAMMY-winning records, won a Juno Award and was mentored by Ellis Marsalis). Listen to their take on the Pete Seeger favorite "Shenandoah,” traditionally revolving around the singer yearning for the daughter of a Native American chief - but here, the messages of longing and separation at its core are reframed to be a tale of seeking "home."

APQ’s debut stands as a vital celebration of our shared dreams, rich histories, and the all-important role of immigrants, and of multicultural communities, in our American story. Especially in the face of a divisive election year, where many politicians continue hammering a narrow and close-minded definition of what ‘being American’ means - a whole-hearted embrace of unity in diversity feels more essential than ever. APQ had previously shared advance tracks “Beneath The Willow” (which was released for National Immigrants Day), “Gone For Soldier” and “Lazy John.”
